Sinus Surgery

Sinus Lift Surgery

A sinus lift, or sinus augmentation, is a specialized procedure that adds bone to the upper jaw
in the area of the premolars and molars, creating a stable foundation for dental implants. This is
often necessary when bone volume is insufficient due to tooth loss, gum disease, or natural
anatomy, and when the sinus cavity is too close to the jaw for implants to be safely placed.
There are two main techniques used in sinus lift surgery, depending on your individual needs:

Lateral Window Sinus Lift

The lateral window approach is typically used when there is significant bone loss in the upper
jaw. In this method, a small window is created in the side of the maxillary bone to access the
sinus membrane. The membrane is carefully lifted, and bone graft material is placed beneath it to
build up the area. This technique allows for greater visibility and access, making it ideal for more
complex cases where more substantial bone augmentation is required.

Crestal Sinus Lift (Versah/Densah Technique)

The crestal sinus lift is a more conservative, minimally invasive approach, ideal when a small to
moderate bone height increase is needed. Using the Versah® (Densah®) burs, this technique
gently compacts the existing bone through a process called osseodensification, which helps
preserve and even enhance bone quality. The sinus membrane is elevated through the implant
site itself, without the need to open a lateral window. This method is less invasive, typically
involves a quicker recovery, and in many cases, allows for implant placement during the same
procedure.

Why Consider a Sinus Lift?

 To enable dental implants in areas with insufficient bone height.  To rebuild bone lost due to long-term tooth loss or periodontal disease.  To improve the long-term success and stability of upper jaw implants.
At our practice, we tailor the sinus lift technique to your unique anatomy and treatment goals,
ensuring safe, comfortable, and effective care. Whether you're receiving a lateral window sinus
lift or a crestal approach using the Versah technique, our goal is to help you move forward
confidently toward a fully restored smile.
